Kolage (Christmas Rounds)

Ingredients
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
2 quarts bread flour
1 cake yeast
1 quart milk
Directions
To 1 cup of the milk which is heated until lukewarm, add 1 tsp. of the sugar, yeast, and a little flour to make a very thin batter. Set aside in a warm place to rise. Cream butter, add remaining sugar and the egg yolks. Beat. Add the yeast mixture, the flour, and as much more of the milk (lukewarm) as is necessary for a dough of medium thickness. Beat well and place in warm place to rise. When light, take some of the dough and put on floured board, cut in small pieces, shape in small balls, and place on buttered pan about 4 inches apart. Press each ball in the center to make a hollow and fill either with cottage cheese filling, poppy seed, or prune filling. Let rise again and bake in a moderate oven. When done, brush over with melted butter and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Prune Filling
Ingredients
1 lb. prunes
1. cup sugar
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Cinnamon to taste
Directions
Boil prunes, stone, and put through chopper. Mix well with sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
